Christmas Bird Count

Greetings Loyal CBC Birders,

The annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is a great chance to step back and enjoy some low-stress time with your fellow birders and relax in nature or your own backyard.  It is a great way to take a break from your everyday demands and relax in nature and enjoy watching our feathered friends.  We hope you will be able to join us again this year.

You may have noticed that the migration has started and our winter friends will be arriving soon.  Once again our yards will be filled with yellow-rumped warblers, cedar waxwings, yellow-bellied sapsuckers and many others.  I for one can’t wait to see them again this winter.
Here is a summary of the pertinent information:

WHEN: Monday, December 15th…rain or shine!

WHO:  BIRDERS of ALL abilities! We need you even if you are not an expert birder.  We need participants in these various roles:

  • Field Group Leader
  • Field Group Participant
  • Field Group Photographer
  • Field Group Recorder of birds seen
  • Home birders to watch their yard for a minimum of 30 minutes
  • Home birders willing to listen for their neighborhood owls in the evening

Complete directions for all roles are provided by our leadership team.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU AT THIS TIME:

  • Please respond to this email and let us know if you want to be a Field Birder, Home Birder or Both with your address, phone and preferred email.
  • FIELD BIRDERS ONLY:
  • Do you have a preferred team from last year?
  • Do you have a CAMERA and are you willing to take photos in the field?
  • Would you be willing to be the recorder on the Field Team?
  • FIELD TEAM LEADERS:
  • Are you willing to continue being a Field Team Leader?
  • Are you interested in being a new Field Team Leader?
  • YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE THE BEST BIRDER TO BE THE LEADER!
  • You just need to be organized.
  • You are responsible for contacting Field Team participants with schedule and location
  • Responsible for completing the official “Tally Sheet” for your group and submitting to Alan Biggs
Please respond to this email with your information.  I, Deb Sadlon, will be collecting all participant’s information.  Once the information has been collected, you will then be contacted by the other leaders just prior to the Christmas Bird Count.

No longer in HHP:
  • If you have moved or wish to be removed from the list, then just let me know via a reply.
  • If you are no longer in HHP but still on the island and wish to participate in the CBC, let us know and we can connect you with a group.
Thank you for your time and assistance.  I look forward to hearing from you.
